At about 9:40 on September 3, Tanzanian President Hassan arrived in Beijing by plane and will attend the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit.
Tanzania is a traditional friendly country and comprehensive strategic partner of China in Africa. In recent years, the two countries have had frequent high-level exchanges. In November 2022, President Hassan was invited to pay a state visit to China as the first African head of state after the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
Tanzania is a member of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and actively participates in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Africa. Major projects such as the Central Standard Gauge Railway, the Nyerere Hydropower Station, and the National Information and Communication Technology Broadband Backbone Network undertaken by Chinese companies are progressing steadily.
In 2023, the bilateral import and export volume of goods between China and Tanzania was US$8.779 billion, an increase of 8.9% year-on-year. China has been Tanzania’s largest trading partner for seven consecutive years.
